2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Lead to Boost Struggling Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the anticipated over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Management Shift Comes After Lukewarm Feedback

Brinkman assumes the leadership position at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing early showing last autumn.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated employees about this organizational change through an official communication, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a clearer game identity.

Ismailer noted that the team is now reimagining the project with a refreshed vision, aiming to better meet player expectations.

Trend of Strategic Recruitment

This announcement follows a similar move taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.

Here is the complete message from the president's memo:

Dear Team—

I know you all just wrapped up your town hall - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a message, I expressed the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and talented designers we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to continue.”

Through your commitment and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The community feedback from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was revealing. It affirmed the promise of a action-packed game but indicated we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the necessity for a clearer identity.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the criticism to mind and reimagined the title with a refreshed direction - one that’s ready to deliver on its promise to our players.

The belief in Project ETHOS grows every day. To boost the remarkable development you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce Ben Brinkman as the latest Lead of 31st Union. Following several months of conversations, Ben comes aboard us on the specified date.

Ben’s management and background in the PVP shooter space is vast, having devoted the recent years creating and managing some of the most recognizable franchises in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in greeting him next week. We are all excited to continue seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the time to ahead.

David

Title Information and Vision

The upcoming game was announced in last year in conjunction with a early access event. At the time, the developers presented the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an thrilling evolution on the genre."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the description explains. "Challenge the rivals with fresh skills, risks, and obstacles that change every round. Do you leave securely with your valuable rewards? Alternatively aim high, risk it all, and trust your group can secure victory? The option is in your hands."

The game has not yet received an official release date or consoles, but players can anticipate further news as production advances.
